Hyundai Progressively Adds the D to its
European Segmentation A B C



  • Sales plus of 8.4% in August; cumulated sales reach 236,485 units for 2005
  • Sonata brings Hyundai a growing share in the D-segment


Rüsselsheim, September 2nd, 2005 – Hyundai Motor Europe reported total sales of 22,156 vehicles in August 2005, an increase of 8.4% over the same month last year. In the eight month period from January to August 2005, Hyundai Motor Europe sold 236,485 units, 5.1% up from last year.


“Although the Sonata isn’t contributing the major volume, we are very happy with its sales performance,” said Ike Oh, President Hyundai Motor Europe GmbH. “Its success shows that we are on the right track with the refinement of our model lineup in the upper segments. The new Grandeur further bolsters our brand’s commitment to move upwards.”

Sonata showed an increase of 52.7% reaching cumulative sales of 5,483 units until August compared to the same period last year.

Bestseller continues to be the Getz with 70,404 sold units in 2005 so far. “With the new Getz model premiering on the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, we will present not only a worthy successor of our star-model,” said Gerry Dorizas, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Europe, “we also expect a growing sales momentum from the new engine line-up introduced later this year.”

Hyundai is located in hall 6 at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. Official press conference and new model presentations will be take place at the booth at 10:45am on September 13th, 2005.
