World Premier of new Getz at IAA 2005

  • Also debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show are the C-segment HND-2 and the D-segment MPV Portico concept vehicles.

Rüsselsheim, August 8th, 2005 – In a challenge to continue its 7-years success streak of rapid growth in Europe, Hyundai Motor is continuingly refining its model line-up for the Europe market as well as exploring new growth niches in an increasingly fragmented car market.

Introduced in 2002, the Getz has been a major international success. Over 550,000 have been sold world-wide, almost 266,000 in Europe alone.

Truly European-fashioned, the new Getz models represent an all-round increase in attractiveness for Hyundai’s biggest selling model. Overall improvements include a revised front and rear styling aspect, dynamically redesigned interiors and increased safety features. Four all-new engine options, with a revised gearbox and shift for the diesel models, are the highlights of the technical advances.

In terms of safety, ESP makes it model debut, as does the passenger airbag on/off switch, and active front seat headrests, plus increased efficiency side impact protection.

From a European perspective the new 1.5 VGT diesel engine is the major newspoint. Featuring a new manual transmission with revised shift, this unit is available in two power options with 88ps/220Nm torque and the option of 110ps/240Nm torque. Both incorporate variable geometry turbo technology. Inhouse tests also reveal that it represents a 9% saving in fuel over the previous 1.5 litre unit.

The 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines mark a major step forward in terms of meaningful technology and environmental friendliness. OHC 4-valve units featuring CVVT, the 1.4 delivers 95ps at 6,000rpm with 125Nm torque at 3,200 rpm. The sportive 1.6 offers 106ps at 5,800rpm with 147Nm at 3,200 rpm. The 1.1 litre 65ps unit remains as entry-level motorization. All current Hyundai engines comply with Euro 4 regulations.

HND-2 – The HND-2 is developed as a sporty C-segment concept by the Hyundai Design Team in Namyang. The 3-door hatchback offers a preview of several design and styling aspects which resemble features of the new Hyundai
Accent coming next year.

Portico – Developed by Hyundai's Advanced Design Team at the Design Center in South Korea, the Portico is an example of the new market segments Hyundai is continually exploring - in this case, the next generation of family transportation. The Portico is neither a sedan nor an MPV, but it provides the benefits of both designs. The key to the concept is combine roomy passenger and luggage space with sporting drivability.

All three new models will premier during the official press conference of Hyundai Motor on September 13th on the Hyundai stand, number C8 in hall 6. The press conference will take place at 10:45 am in the presence of top management executives of Hyundai Motor Company.
