An Environmentally-friendly approach

Hyundai focuses on environmentally-friendly vehicle design, engines and production facilities. Below are just three of the very best examples of the company’s attitude to sustainability.

1. Hyundai is aiming to be a leader in the area of clean energy. Its commitment to fuel cell vehicle development is part of the company’s efforts to protect nature. In early 2004, Hyundai took the lead by unveiling an extensive Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) testing programme.

2. Hyundai is totally committed to all aspects of recycling. In 1999, Hyundai developed the world’s first recycling assessment software. The program precisely determines how much of a new vehicle design is recyclable before it even goes into production.

3. Hyundai’s waste management programs are world famous. In its manufacturing plants, for example, all water used in manufacturing processes is re-purified to drinking standard.

Sustainable supplier relations

Equally important to Hyundai is the building of strong relationships with its suppliers, which help long-term development, encourage better quality and improve dependability.

A major new green purchasing initiative has begun, which should be fully implemented by 2008.

This ‘green’ approach is an integral part of Hyundai’s commitment to building and maintaining a world leading brand.

Sustainable customer loyalty

The third major aspect of sustainability is building customer loyalty.

Focussing on improved quality has been a prime company commitment since 1999. Quality is a dominant theme in product development decisions. This is why Hyundai can offer industry-leading vehicle and powertrain warranties.

Hyundai’s changed attitude to providing the highest quality is best demonstrated by the success of the Getz. Specifically developed for the European car market, the Getz is Europe’s best-selling supermini.

More importantly, the Getz has changed perceptions of Hyundai‘s quality at the all-important, entry-level of building customer brand loyalty.

Key to Hyundai’s drive for quality is the design and engineering process. As a result, for the first time ever, Hyundai came top in the US-based J.D. Power and Associates 2004 Initial Quality Survey.
