Hybrid electric vehicles can both reduce exhaust emissions and improve fuel consumption and power performance. The power transmission system of a hybrid electric vehicle features the integration of the driving parts including the engine and motor. The motor mounted on a hybrid electric car performs the roles of both engine assister and generator at the same time and can charge the car battery without an outside charger when the car is running or braking. The hybrid electric vehicle operates in various driving modes depending on driving conditions to save energy and reduce exhaust emissions, thus realizes higher fuel economy, more efficient driving, and a higher level of quietness and comfort than existing internal-combustion engine vehicles.

Hyundai is currently providing the Korean government with a fleet of 50 Getz hybrid vehicles.
