 | Hyundai has chosen to develop technologies that add value to its vehicles, by making vehicles more environmentally-friendly, more efficient, and safer for its passengers.
Diesel competence
The 1.1 l ultra low emission and low consumption turbo diesel engine that is fitted in the Getz ECO design concept clearly shows that Hyundai’s European engineers are among the world’s most advanced. It is their research on environmentally-friendly technology puts Hyundai in the position of being able to meet ever-increasing European demand for low-cost fuel and minimum emission vehicles.
Stability
The European R&D center is also focusing on further improving electronic stability programs (ESP). Studies show that 30 per cent less single-vehicle crashes occur with vehicles that are equipped with ESP. With such intriguing features, more vehicles will be fitted with this technology, as the public is becoming more aware of the benefits.
Passenger safety
Of course, Hyundai also does extensive research on technologies that will further enhance passive safety. More advanced Airbag systems and pre-crash safety features are being developed that will make Hyundai vehicles even more valuable to their customers.
To ensure further progress in technology development, Hyundai has considerably stepped up its R&D investments in Europe. A large amount of the 50 million Euros that were invested in the Rüsselsheim site was spent to set up the R&D Center. With a working area of 8,472 square metres, the facility is fully equipped with dynamometers, emission analyzing equipment that ensures the Euro emission norms are met or exceeded, chassis dynamometers, test rigs, and NVH and K&C test rooms.
Hyundai plans to employ more than three hundred engineers by 2007 to further strengthen Hyundai’s European R&D.
